Reading Guide - Week 1   no comments

Posted at 7:01 am in Bible Reading Guides

This guide will list the chapters to read for the day and questions and/or thoughts to help you understand and apply what you read.

Day 1 - Genesis 1-3
The creation and fall of man.
List the 7 days of creation:

List 3 lessons you can learn about temptation from chapter 3:

Day 2 - Genesis 4-6
The mark placed on Cain has nothing to do with skin color. Chapter 4 lists the family tree from Adam to Noah. Who lived the longest? ___________________ Who died the youngest? _______________________. The dimensions of the ark were roughly 450′ long x 75′ wide x 45′ tall. What are the names of Noah’s three sons?

Day 3 - Genesis 7-9
The flood and aftermath. What animals went by 7’s instead of twos?
8:4 - The mountains of Ararat are in modern Turkey. What was instituted in 9:6?

Day 4 - Genesis 10-12
The Tower of Babel and introduction of Abraham. Chapter 10 is often called the “Table of Nations.” Languages were created by God at the tower to disperse mankind. The introduction of Abraham marks a major transition in Genesis. The focus of the Bible goes from God dealing with all mankind to one family.

Day 5 - Genesis 13-15
God’s covenant with Abraham. What lessons in conflict resolution can you learn from Abraham’s dealings with Lot in chapter 13?

Day 6 - Genesis 16-18
Abraham doesn’t wait on God’s promise. The Arab nations come from Ishmael. How does 16:12 compare with modern Arab-Israeli conflicts?

Chapter 18 records the remarkable intercession of Abraham for the wicked city of Sodom. We need more intercessors for the cities of our nation!

Day 7 - Genesis 19-21
Lot vividly illustrates the backslider’s fate. 2 Peter 5:7-8 describes Lot’s condition: “And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)” What ways could we do the same as Lot?

Abraham has his own struggles to be honest and fair in ch. 20-21.

Jeremiah’s reaction upon the rediscovery of God’s Word during the reign of Josiah:
“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Later today I will be adding the reading guide for this week. That’s about all there is to see for now. I will update the downloads page and add some more information later. See you soon!
